I thought this would be a good day to post and remember all the hard work that Camerino and the other farm staff do around the house. The interesting thing is that while Labour Day is celebrated on May 1 through most of the world, in Canada and the US, Labour Day falls in September. I've always wondered what that is: an acquaintance at university told me it's because the "capitalists" celebrate the harvest (i.e.: September) while the workers celebrate the sowing (i.e.: spring), but he was an avowed Communist, so I'm not sure we can take his word on it.
I'm sure Camerino and his crew are busy with pumpkin planting - last year looked like it was a mad dash to get the plants in the ground, so hopefully this year will have been planned more smoothly. My daughter has been pining after a pumpkin plant, but even with our suburban backyard, we don’t have room for them. I am looking forward to seeing how this year’s pumpkin crop is shaping up for the Roloff farm though and how Camerino is managing with the increased demand for pumpkins as the farm’s celebrity increases with that of the Roloffs.
